In support of the Liberty Alliance's version 1 specifications for federated Network Identity, Sun Microsystems has announced the availability of its end-to-end solution that addresses the need for heightened security, privacy and federated identity management.
Fully compliant with Liberty version 1.0, the Sun ONE (Open Net Environment) Platform for Network Identity features pre-integrated, software, hardware and services. The platform features the Liberty-enabled Sun ONE Identity Server 6, Sun ONE Directory Server 5.2 and the Solaris 9 Operating Environment.
"Enterprises today are challenged with managing identities within and across organisations from employees and customers to partners and suppliers," comments Pete Lindstrom, director at research group Hurwitz.
"Sun's support of the Liberty version 1.0 specifications and the announcement of the Sun ONE Platform for Network Identity further illustrates Sun's commitment to identity management for companies that are building and deploying Web services."
Stefano Mattiello, managing director of Sun Microsystems SA, comments that CIOs and commerce sites are spending millions on redundant, proprietary identity infrastructure.

With the Sun ONE Platform for Network Identity companies can reduce redundancies between existing systems, while extending their network identity environment safely to deliver single sign-ons within their own organisations or among groups of companies working together.
Already Wells Fargo, a provider of retail Internet banking sites, is utilising Network Indentity and is with the help of Sun, providing next-generation single sign-ons across its various sites that include brokerage and bill-paying facilities.

The Sun ONE Identity Server 6, for example, enables enterprises to bridge disparate authentication systems with single sign-on. "Based on open standards such as Liberty, SAML and Java Authentication and Authorisation Service, customers can integrate Sun ONE into existing systems without vendor lock-in," comments Mattiello.
