Sun-Fujitsu server project delayed
A Sun server executive said the server collaboration between Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu has run into a delay, and it will probably mean some products won`t arrive until next year, writes ZDNet.
"Sun and Fujitsu had planned to deliver servers using Fujitsu`s beginning in mid-2006. Instead, higher-end models with more than eight processors likely won`t arrive until 2007," says the report.
David Yen, executive VP of Sun`s Scalable Systems Group, informed the press in a meeting at Sun`s offices. "High-end 16-, 32- and 64-way systems probably will happen in the early part of next year," Yen said.
AMD`s Microprocessor Market Share Reaches 21%
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has reportedly secretly released market share estimations by Mercury Research that state AMD`s x86 microprocessor market share had reached 21.4% in the fourth quarter of 2006.
This is according to a report in XBit Labs, who add that this means: "Intel now commands less than 80% of all x86 microprocessor shipments"
Sun Microsystems enjoys great 2nd quarter
Sun Microsystems experienced an increase in customer demand during the second fiscal quarter, resulting from new products delivered to the market in the past two quarters.
This is according to a press release on Yahoo! Finance, which adds: "customers are rapidly adopting line of industry-standard Sun Fire servers, the Solaris 10 Operating System, Sun Java Enterprise System and Sun`s comprehensive".
Sun profiled some of their new customers, which included American Express, Abacus, Bosch, Harrods, the Philadelphia stock exchange, Synnex Technology and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
