Sun Microsystems has launched its Sun Standard Cluster Configuration - the first of a family of plug-and-play cluster configurations.
The new Sun Standard Cluster Configuration is designed to reduce the complexity and speed the deployment of highly available e-business and IT infrastructures by delivering high availability, fail-over protection and reliable load balancing in a single package.
"With this Sun Standard Cluster Configuration, Sun gives customers the ability to put HA environments on a fast and simple track," says Raj Das, director of marketing for the integrated products group at Sun. "With systems that can be deployed more quickly and reliably, companies can focus IT resources on revenue generating services or applications - instead of systems integration."
The Sun Standard Cluster Configuration B1 is the first platform in a family of integrated cluster configurations. It is based on the Sun Cluster 3.0 software, Sun Enterprise 220R servers running the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, Sun StorEdge D1000 disk arrays, and the Netra T1 Model 105 management server.
Redundant servers and storage arrays are designed to provide fail-over protection. Rigorous testing and system qualification by Sun improves the reliability of the system and the single rack factory integration of the platform streamlines the time, cost component and IT resources required for integrating a cluster.
Sun's Cluster 3.0 software is an extension to Solaris, featuring the first clustered file system for standard Unix environments, which enables the creation of a cluster-wide global application service that allows an application to be installed once and run anywhere on the cluster.
The Sun Standard Cluster Configuration B1 is available immediately. The configuration ships as an integrated platform for the same price as purchasing the various components separately.
Future configurations will include a variety of server and storage options to meet diverse IT infrastructure size and capacity requirements.
