Sun Java Studio Creator ready for Mac, x86 with free upgrade

Johannesburg, 26 Nov 2004

Sun Microsystems is offering a free upgrade of the Sun Java Studio Creator to support Mac OS X and the Solaris Operating System (x86 Platform Edition). This offering gives x86 and Mac developers access to the ease of use and performance features of Java Studio Creator and the Java platform. In addition, the upgrade marks the first multi-language release of the product, with support for Japanese and simplified Chinese.

Java Studio Creator is a development environment focused on easy assembly of business applications from components using a simple drag-and-drop visual interface. It includes a complete version of Sun Java System Application Server 8, Platform Edition, the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 1.4.2 SDK, and development time drivers for market-leading databases, making developers productive from the start and able to take full advantage of the Enterprise Java platform.

"A vibrant community of Mac-based Java developers has emerged as these programmers are increasingly taking advantage of the ease of use," says Sean O'Hare, Java Systems Engineer at Sun Microsystems SA.

"Sun is working to broaden the market served by Java technology on multiple fronts, localising tools to meet the needs of developers in high-growth markets and expanding the range of platforms our products support," continues O'Hare.

"By making our products accessible to more developers around the world, on every major platform, we are supporting our commitment to make the Java language the most popular, developer-friendly technology on earth."

In addition, Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs), including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSEs) receive a 50% discount on Java Studio Creator as part of a promotion that gives them access to Sun's AMD Opteron processor-based workstations and servers.

Members of the Mac community seeking information on Java-related topics, including Java Studio Creator, are invited to visit the Java community at http://community.java.net/mac.
