Sun Microsystems is the leading supplier of Unix disk storage systems shipped for calendar year 2004, according to the latest IDC Q4 2004 Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker.
Sun also increased its Unix market share for units shipped, which will allow more businesses to protect their existing storage investments, simplify data management and meet the global emphasis on corporate governance and business compliance.
"The IDC report is further evidence that Sun is the dominant player in the Unix storage arena and shows that Sun is further strengthening its position in this market space. This shows that our focus on building a comprehensive storage portfolio that meets users' needs is paying off," says Vito Bonafede, managing director of Sun Microsystems' sub-Saharan Africa region.
"In addition to the strong performance in the Unix market, Sun Network Storage continues to solidify its storage position by growing its market share for units shipped in the total disk storage systems market in 2004," he concludes.
