Johannesburg, 19 Sep 2000

The backup storage options for dot-com and traditional businesses has received a boost with Sun Microsystems latest storage tape offering.

"With the explosion in the amount of kept on disk, businesses have realised they need comprehensive, flexible backup products for recovery purposes," explains Geert de Witte, senior systems engineer, Sun Microsystems Middle East Africa (MEA).

To meet this need, Sun Microsystems is taking a leadership role in the growing tape automation market. The company has introduced the new Sun StorEdge L180 tape library, Sun StorEdge L20 tape library and the Sun StorEdge L9 tape.

Sun's comprehensive backup solutions meet the increasing backup needs of businesses at any level, enabling them to grow backup as they require. The new Sun StorEdge tape library delivers a complete mission-critical backup solution with mixed-media support, remote monitoring capabilities, high reliability, scalable capacity and on-site installation.

"The Sun StorEdge tape automation systems are aimed at the workgroup right through to mission-critical data centre applications," says de Witte.

The Sun StorEdge L180 tape library is a comprehensive backup solution that enables midrange mission-critical environments to achieve enterprise level data protection and accessibility. This system delivers mission critical reliability through redundant system components, ultra reliable robotics and simple serviceability.

The Sun StorEdge L20 tape library and the Sun StorEdge L9 tape autoloader are the perfect match for entry-level and workgroup environments. These solutions are low cost and provide the customer with compact, high-speed tape backup and the ability to expand as required. Remote offices, engineering workgroups, remote offices and departments would all benefit from the Sun StorEdge L9 tape autoloader where the high capacity, compact form factor and low cost are critical.
