Sun ONE Web Server finds favour with Fortune 1000

Johannesburg, 16 Jul 2003

Top companies are turning to Sun ONE Web Server to build secure and reliable Web infrastructures.

That's according to market analysis by Netcraft, an authority on market share for Web server products, which indicates that Sun ONE Web Server is the platform of choice for the Fortune 100. Sun ONE Web Server has also surpassed Apache in the Fortune 1000.

"Sun continues to find favour with larger enterprises that are able to focus on benefits as well as costs," says Mike Prettejohn, director of Netcraft.

Businesses including Sprint, General Electric, American Airlines, AXA Financial, Broadvision and others use the Sun ONE Web Server to power their Web-based applications.

Lodewyk de Beer, solutions architect for Sun Microsystems SA, maintains that Sun ONE Web Server is gaining traction as it is a proven platform that fits into a wider stack - Sun ONE - and delivers the and reliability demanded by enterprises, at an affordable cost.

Sun ONE, or Open Environment, is the company's Services on Demand model for computing, in which a software Internet infrastructure is able to provide information, data, and applications to anyone, anytime, anywhere, on anything.

"Sun ONE Web Server is an integral component of a complete software stack that addresses enterprise requirements from the desktop to the data centre," says De Beer.

A platform for both static and dynamic content, the Sun ONE Web Server powers Web applications based on JavaServer Pages and Java Servlets, Active Server Pages, ColdFusion, PHP and CGI. The Sun ONE Directory Server, included with the Sun ONE Web Server, provides additional security for Web-based applications.

"The success of the Sun ONE Web Server supports our commitment to powering our customers' Web infrastructure. Its popularity can be attributed to its unsurpassed security and reliability," concludes De Beer.
