Two of the world's e-business leaders have further cemented their relationship, enabling customers to choose where they house their servers while still enjoying the benefits of an online application service.
Oracle, the largest provider of software for e-business, has chosen the Sun platform to run its E-business Suite Online Any Place offering.
"This is a breakthrough option for customers who want to house their Sun systems on-site while leaving the administration to Oracle," says Stefano Mattiello, managing director at Sun Microsystems SA.
The arrangement leverages the Veritas, Oracle and Sun (VOS) initiative model, an alliance designed to provide a set of well-integrated, high quality services for the e-business environment.
"Building on the success of the VOS initiative, the reliable and scalable Sun platform is accelerating Oracle's 'software as a service' delivery alternative," says Mattiello.
The servers powering E-business Suite Online Any Place will be based on the Sun Enterprise 220R and 420R servers. Sun workgroup servers provide the scalability and reliability needed by enterprises, service providers as well as small to medium-sized workgroups to meet the infrastructure building blocks for e-business. Oracle will pre-test and pre-configure the most recent version of the Oracle E-business Suite software on these platforms, allowing customers to implement their e-business applications quickly and easily.
"We've had great experience in using Sun for our online configurations, and have confidence in Sun's reliability and scalability," said Timothy Chou, President, Oracle.com.
"Now we can offer our customers a new option to use the same systems we are using internally, while leveraging our expertise at managing software remotely. This way, customers can use Sun systems on-site while leaving the administration of the software to Oracle."
