Sun releases VTL
Sun Microsystems is releasing its first virtual tape library (VTL) with data deduplication at Storage Networking World in the USA this week, says Search Storage.
The Sun StorageTek VTL Prime is the third member of the Sun open VTL platform, but the first to use FalconStor's Single Instance Repository (SIR) deduplication feature.
The product is available on a limited basis, but Sun has no general availability date yet.
Sierra acquires CradlePoint
Sierra Wireless, is set to acquire CradlePoint, a privately-held developer and supplier of wireless networking products and docking solutions for mobile enterprise, industrial and consumer applications, according to PR Newswire
CradlePoint is a provider of mobile broadband networking solutions with unique products, including the PHS-300 personal hotspot and MBR-1000 mobile broadband router.
"The acquisition of CradlePoint is consistent with our strategy of strengthening our differentiation and expanding our position in the mobile computing value chain", said Jason Cohenour, president and CEO of Sierra Wireless.
FCIA to exhibit at SNW
The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) will exhibit enterprise Fibre Channel solutions in two technology demonstrations for 8GFC (Gigabit Fibre Channel) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), according to PrimeNewswire.
Each demonstration will showcase real-world applications that demand performance and speed. The demonstrations will take place in booth number 407 at Storage Networking World (SNW), 7-11 April, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida.
"FCIA continues to demonstrate the value of Fibre Channel for today's storage area networks. In particular, advances in 8GFC and FCoE continue to achieve critical milestones addressing customer's stringent requirements," said Skip Jones, chairman of FCIA.
