Sun, Siebel port Siebel CRM to Solaris on x86, enhance relationship

Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2004

Sun Microsystems and Siebel Systems have announced an expanded relationship designed to lower the cost of ownership for Sun and Siebel Systems users. Under the terms of their broadened alliance, Siebel Systems will port Siebel CRM, Enterprise Edition to Sun's Solaris Operating System for x86 platforms.

When the port is complete, Siebel customers seeking cost-effective CRM solutions will be able to run Siebel Enterprise Edition on Solaris for Sun's volume systems, says Dumisani Mtoba, senior systems engineer at Sun Microsystems SA.

"This development is another indication of how Sun is working to provide businesses with lower cost, higher performance solutions as well as the freedom to choose their preferred platform," comments Mtoba.

In addition, the companies have announced new Unix price/performance ratio and scalability results from a benchmark of 10 000 users running the Siebel Platform Sizing and Performance Program (PSPP). The Siebel PSPP simulates deployments across large global enterprises, including employees, partners and customers using Siebel Sales, Service and Marketing solutions. "The results are the best yet obtained for Siebel on a Unix platform," notes Mtoba.

"Siebel Systems and Sun have a long history of working together to deliver premier solutions that make companies more customer-centric and competitive," says Ed Abbo, Chief Technology Officer at Siebel Systems.

"The ability to perform enterprise-wide, in-house testing for our customers prior to their deployment allows our companies to help maintain the highest service levels for our customers. With this agreement, we're expanding the power of both Siebel CRM solutions and Solaris," he adds.

"Our companies continue to offer superior products and services that can reduce cost and complexity for our enterprise customers," Mtoba continues. "Businesses today require rock solid security, enterprise-class functionality and a new level of price and performance. Our joint solution delivers all of this at highly competitive prices."
