SunGard Availability Services today announced a strategic alliance with InSiteOne, Inc to deliver SunGard's Service for Medical Images (SMI), a study management service to store and access digital images from a secure SunGard archive.
SMI utilises SunGard's proven information availability capabilities to help organisations to have "on demand" access to images, along with InSiteOne's InDex medical image storage and archiving software and architecture.
SMI has a managed service model that provides hospitals, imaging centres and physician group practices with high-speed, Internet-based access to a secure SunGard storage facility. This approach helps organisations to avoid the high capital expenditure and technology obsolescence issues typically found with long-term study management of medical images.
"SunGard Availability Services brings unmatched information availability expertise and resources along with a well-known brand that have earned customer trust in managing valuable information over the long-term. They match well with our own strong brand as one of the recognised leaders in the medical archive services," said Mitchell Goldburgh, senior vice-president of marketing, of InSiteOne.
InSiteOne's InDex is designed to optimise the storage and archiving of medical images for healthcare facilities transitioning to filmless digital imaging. InDex supports short-term storage, retrieval and long-term archiving of DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and non-DICOM medical images including ultrasound, MRI, CT and radiotherapy. InDex integrates with any PACS (picture archiving and communications system) or modality as well as hospital networks and information systems.
"InSiteOne is a recognised leader in optimising the storage and archiving of medical images for healthcare facilities," said John Lindeman, vice-president, product development at SunGard Availability Services. "As healthcare organisations increasingly move more information online, SunGard will help IT organisations become critical enablers in enhancing patient care and creating competitive advantage by utilising best-of-breed software in our expanding service portfolio."
