Sun's StorEdge T3 goes hetro

Johannesburg, 11 Jan 2001

The high-end storage array from Sun Microsystems, the StorEdge T3, will now support Windows NT, HP-UX, AIX and Linux systems, as well as the compatibility with Solaris.

The company says this is part of its delivery on its for open, scalable storage networks.

"An increasing number of users demand storage solutions that can support multiple server platforms and operating systems," comments John McArthur, VP, storage research at the International Corporation.

"This announcement dramatically expands Sun's potential and makes the Sun value proposition of centralised management and scalability at a fraction of the cost available to a much broader range of users."

Heterogeneous T3 enterprise and workgroup arrays are currently installed in several sites, and Sun expects to begin volume shipments this month. The T3 arrays have been shipping with support for Solaris since July 2000. Cluster support across all of the platforms is expected soon.

The Sun StorEdge T3 array includes Sun StorEdge Component Manager software, a storage management tool for centralised management of distributed networks. This software provides the ability to locally and remotely manage distributed storage from one central console and allocate storage based upon actual need, rather than system type. Sun will also offer support for the StorEdge T3 across all platforms.

The T3 array delivers capacity up to 5.2TB within a standard cabinet and up to 169TB per server.
