Super-fast broadband a job generator
broadband could create thousands of jobs and bring millions of pounds into the Scottish economy in the next 15 years, according to a report, UKPA writes.
Investment by BT in the service has already made the technology available to more than 270 000 Scottish homes and businesses, and the company expects the number to rise to around 836 000 by spring 2013.
Director of BT Scotland Brendan Dick said the company's super-fast broadband rollout is already well underway, but stated that it is keen to go further by having a greater impact on local economies, Cable reports.
"It is vital that we continue to grow and help our customers, stakeholders and employees to thrive as we work together to create a more prosperous Scotland," he added.
Regeneris Consulting has forecast the creation of 6 600 new London start-up businesses, while an additional 73 000 city employees are expected to work from home, uSwitch says.
BT's super-fast broadband programme has already made the technology available to more than 2.2 million homes and businesses in the capital.
