SurfControl launches total e-mail filtering solution to support Exchange 2003

SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003 offers enterprise users complete protection against damaging confidential information leaks, blended threats and spam

SurfControl, the world`s number one Web and e-mail filtering company, has announced the launch of SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003, the only complete e-mail filtering solution on the market that can be easily integrated with Microsoft`s Exchange 2003 mail server platform.

SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003 provides a simple plug-in installation and allows enterprises to quickly deploy a powerful e-mail content management tool to control e-mail risks such as confidential information leaks, blended threat attacks, spam and overburdened network resources.

SurfControl is the first company in the secure content management market to introduce an e-mail filtering product for Exchange 2003. In a recent survey by leading analyst firm IDC, Microsoft`s Exchange was the most widely used e-mail server among 1000 IT professionals.

"We are excited to be the first company in the secure content management market to offer this complete e-mail filtering solution to enterprises who have adopted Exchange 2003," said Wayne Bird, Product Director at Networks Unlimited, local distributor of SurfControl. "Today we are seeing that e-mail risks such as the disclosure of confidential information or offensive language can be extremely damaging to an organisation. SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003 helps companies manage all unwanted e-mail content and keeps networks and corporate reputations protected."

The inadvertent disclosure of confidential information has become a growing concern for businesses today. Confidential information leakage was ranked as the number one content issue facing corporations beyond the spam epidemic, according to a recent SurfControl survey of more than 500 IT professionals. Federal regulations such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley have put financial, healthcare and insurance organisations under increased pressure to secure confidential customer information or face legal liability issues and major fines for non-compliance. Exposure to offensive e-mail content in the workplace also puts companies at risk for potential legal liability.

With SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003, companies are able to filter internal e-mail, as well as incoming and outgoing e-mail communications. This provides greater protection against internal mail threats such as confidential data leakage and regulatory compliance violations. SurfControl E-mail Filter contains customisation tools to allow IT managers to prevent confidential information from leaving the organisation. Using a combination of artificial intelligence, lexical analysis and technology that can recognise patterns much like the human brain, e-mail is reviewed for select words and word combinations, protecting companies from harmful disclosures.

"Companies need to look beyond spam and recognise that other e-mail risks can be just as dangerous and costly to their internal networks and bottom line," said Brian Burke, research manager for security products at IDC. "SurfControl E-mail Filter for Exchange 2003 provides protection from a wide variety of e-mail content concerns and is a smart investment for any organisation looking for a dynamic, multi-layered e-mail filtering solution."

Nearly two million enterprise mailboxes worldwide are now filtered with SurfControl E-mail Filter. SurfControl E-mail Filter is the most secure way for a company to protect its confidential information, manage offensive language and safeguard network resources from internal and external threats. Using SurfControl`s extensive management options such as the industry`s strongest anti-virus protection, enhanced content scanning, and customisable reports, organisations can add the necessary layer of protection to close the loopholes against virus outbreaks and confidential data loss. Companies also can assess e-mail content risks in an offline production environment with E-mail Audit to review historical e-mail communication. E-mail Audit provides organisations with insight into potential risks such as confidential data loss and can help them develop effective acceptable use policies.
