Sybase, a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, has announced that it has broadened its long-standing relationship with IBM to help joint customers migrate to Linux for improved data management and business analytics.
According to Alan Cowley, CEO of Sybase SA, under the terms of the agreement, Sybase and IBM will bundle IBM OpenPower hardware with Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) Express Edition for Linux - the first enterprise-class commercial database that enables users to develop and deploy projects on Linux for maximum performance and manageability, without cost and with reduced risk.
Cowley points out that this offering marks the first time two partners have bundled enterprise hardware and software together for worldwide shipping. As a result, users will now have access to a free, out-of-the-box database deployment for Linux. Worldwide shipping of the bundled offering will begin this month. In addition, free downloads of ASE Express Edition are currently available to existing OpenPower users via www.Sybase.com/linuxpromo.
"Sybase's partnership with IBM has delivered substantial price and performance benefits to joint customers over the years," said Cowley. "This latest announcement brings these same benefits to enterprise customers looking for superior data management tools as they migrate to a Linux platform."
Sybase has also announced the availability of Sybase IQ on IBM OpenPower. A highly scalable analytics engine optimised for award-winning query performance and scalability, Cowley says Sybase IQ is ideal for business analytics, reporting acceleration and large data warehouses.
"Sybase IQ offers ad-hoc query performance up to 100 times faster than traditional databases, making it the perfect complement to IBM OpenPower and is targeted to provide 20% to 40% more processing power than comparable Linux platforms. Linux customers using Sybase IQ with IBM OpenPower will also benefit from reduced costs and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), achieved through Sybase IQ's ability to reduce storage requirements by up to 70%.
