Sybase, BMC backup solution simplifies and automates database recovery

Johannesburg, 24 Apr 2002

Sybase and BMC Software have announced the availability of Sybase's Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5 with BMC Software's SQL-BackTrack.

SQL-BackTrack for Sybase provides online object-level operations for the Sybase platform. It simplifies the backup and recovery process and provides optimal availability and maximum protection against lost data. BMC', a provider of enterprise management solutions, is distributed locally by MGX.

Says Julie Tomlinson, marketing manager at Sybase SA: "BMC's SQL-BackTrack for Sybase makes performance delivery on ASE 12.5 easier, allowing our customers to enjoy the benefits of simplified backup and recovery. Our extended relationship with BMC Software forms part of our ongoing commitment to our customers and their needs."

SQL -Backtrack meets increasing customer demands in the marketplace for ASE 12.5's e-business technology. Tomlinson says the high-performance tool simplifies and automates database backup and recovery with enhanced functionality, minimising downtime and effectively managing robust backup and recovery strategies.

"When a company's database goes down, it is imperative it is back online as quickly and efficiently as possible," says Reg Swart, GM, BMC, Enterprise Solutions at MGX. "SQL-BackTrack for Sybase helps protect databases with fast, automated backups, allowing customers to maintain peak availability and recoverability of their database operations at all times with minimal impact."

SQL-BackTrack's mainframe-class capabilities include true incremental backups; object-level and sub-object-level backup and recovery; data migration; integration with third-party storage management systems; compression; and encryption.

Sybase's flagship relational database management system (RDBMS), Sybase ASE 12.5, includes innovations to support companies rapidly moving to e-business processes. Key features of ASE 12.5 include:

  • .         Innovative advances in data management that exploit operational efficiencies of e-business through management of external, non-relational content;

  • .         Dynamic performance with dynamic tuning for uninterrupted access to data despite the unpredictable demands of the Internet; and

  • .         Enhanced security with row-level access and encrypted communications to protect critical company and customer data.
