Enterprise infrastructure and integration software company Sybase has acquired privately held OnePage, a provider of technology and applications used in building portlets for corporate, consumer and wireless portals.
Portlets essentially represent the basic information integration or access components of portals. California-based OnePage's software - branded as Content Connect Studio - identifies, automatically extracts, and reliably retrieves user-specific information from browser-accessible sources. The software is designed to reduce the time and cost associated with building portlets and deploying enterprise portals.
"The technology will enable Sybase's Enterprise Portal customers to create and deploy portlets from Web browser-accessible information sources, such as XML data sources, Java classes, databases and Web services," says Julie Tomlinson, sales and marketing manager at Sybase SA. "This is Sybase's way of ensuring that it delivers on the promise of continuing to penetrate the portal market by providing new and advanced functionality and services."
The combination of OnePage's patent-pending technology with Sybase's already robust Enterprise Portal product will enable the company to solidify its position as an integration solution provider.
"With the addition of OnePage's technology, Sybase can offer its customers a powerful, easy-to-use portal solution and enable its administrators to instantly deliver a new Web service or information source to thousands of users," says Tomlinson.
