E-business database vendor Sybase has been quick on the draw in providing an integrated mobile e-business software solution. Sybase has claimed a first in adding mobile functionality to its database and e-business portal.
According to GartnerGroup's Dataquest, Sybase is the mobile database market leader for the fourth consecutive year with 61 percent market share (1999).
Sybase South Africa marketing manager Julie Tomlinson says customers will have access to vital business information and applications via mobile and wireless devices such as cellular phones, alpha pagers and personal digital assistants (PDAs).
The foundation of the integrated system is Sybase's e-commerce flagship product, Enterprise Portal, which, in conjunction with Sybase's mobile database offering I-Anywhere, gives developers of wireless applications a comprehensive set of development tools, management, security and enterprise information integration capabilities to integrate mobile and pervasive enterprise systems.
"Using Sybase EP, organizations can rapidly implement an enterprise portal and deliver personalized information anywhere, anytime to its business constituents - customers, partners, suppliers and employees," says Tomlinson.
Wireless capabilities within Sybase Enterprise Portal will allow communication from enterprise portals to cellular phones, palmtops, alpha pagers, and other mobile and wireless devices using the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), and other protocols. Sybase is an active member of the WAP Forum, and is focused on helping to define standards for secure wireless exchange of e-Business information, including enterprise portals.
"Access to information for mobile workers wherever they are, is crucial," says Tomlinson. "By integrating the mobile environment into the enterprise portal, Sybase is enabling mobile workers to have access to the same information as other workers."
Sybase EP builds upon Sybase's leading synchronization capabilities to enable integration with existing enterprise applications like, ERP, CRM and mainframe systems. Sybase EP also provides automatic device detection and delivery of personalized content from within a centralized management and security framework.
Sybase EP, with its new mobile features, provides corporate mobile users with the ability to work either on or offline, giving them non-stop, continuous access to their enterprise data and applications, as well as personalization and integration of enterprise data and applications for all users.
