Sybase InfoMaker8 boosts reporting, analysis capabilities

Johannesburg, 15 Nov 2001

Sybase has announced the local availability of Sybase InfoMaker8, an enterprise-level report generation tool that provides in-depth analysis and interpretation of data. InfoMaker 8 enables users to turn large volumes of data into clear and usable business information and produce presentation-quality reports without the complexities of programming.

"Developers and end-users want software that gives them the reports they need when they need them," says Julie Tomlinson, Sybase SA marketing manager.

"InfoMaker unlocks information through point-and-click query construction. It is a general, all-purpose application for empowering users with information that assists them in making critical decisions. InfoMaker's analytical capabilities and ability to extract data from myriad environments and present it in flexible ways makes this a must-have tool for people wanting to move their business forward with quality information."

InfoMaker wizards enable users to create multiple reports simultaneously. With native database drivers, the InfoMaker application can connect to Sybase, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix and DB2. It also supports DBMS connectivity through JDBC, ODBC and OLE DB to other databases.

Tight integration with Sybase's PowerBuilder 8 helps end-users to incorporate InfoMaker reports into PowerBuilder applications. In addition, it allows end-users to predefine and reuse query and report objects interchangeably with PowerBuilder applications.

New capabilities and enhancements include:

* A GUI tools menu, keyboard shortcuts, title bars, painter view layout and library painter which have all been enhanced.
*.New InfoMaker functions such as LastPos, which returns the position of the last instance of a target string inside a search string.
*.Command-line parameters for executable files. Parameters can be passed to the executable files that are built with InfoMaker.
*.An enhanced form generation for automatically creating master-detail reports.

Enhanced database interface support includes:

*.Support for new functionality in Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 DBMS and Oracle 8.1.5 and Oracle8i.
*.Enhanced DirectConnect DIR interface, which provides support for a gateway-less connection to a DB2/MVS database using Sybase's Open ServerConnect.
*.An enhanced ODBC database interface, which offers database proxy connections for InfoMaker components deployed to Sybase's EAServer.
