Sybase SA's mobile division has announced the local availability of Sybase iAnywhere's enhanced Information Anywhere suite that is focused on collaboration and security for mobile enterprise users.
The Information Anywhere suite is a platform that addresses converging enterprise requirements for mobile e-mail, messaging, security, device management and enterprise applications.
The Information Anywhere suite is a secure, scalable mobile software portfolio of products that address the converging IT requirements of enterprises today.
"By combining mobile e-mail, collaboration, device management, enterprise-to-edge security and back-office application extension capabilities, Information Anywhere enables organisations to empower employees to do the work they need to do anywhere, at anytime, on any device," explains Gerard Sofianos, General Manager of Sybase SA's mobile business division.
"Built from the inception to address the unique characteristics of frontline environments, Information Anywhere ensures mobilised applications are as secure, reliable and available as those that run within the data centre."
The company has now expanded the suite's mobile collaboration capabilities with the general availability of Information Anywhere Mobile IM, which provides secure instant messaging and presence capabilities to mobile workers. In addition, it has also added significant new enhancements to the suite's security solution for laptops, including the addition of security for shareable removable media.
"With mobility comes responsibility, and businesses must take measures to protect corporate information wherever it resides, particularly with widespread usage of unmonitored consumer instant messaging services at work," says Joe Owen, vice-president of engineering at Sybase iAnywhere. "Information Anywhere helps IT take a strategic approach mobilising, managing and securing the entire spectrum of enterprise solutions, from collaboration to other line of business applications, across all mobile devices and media."
Sybase SA's Sofianos points out that Information Anywhere Mobile IM and e-mail address the demands of today's mobile workers for increased productivity and collaboration within a controlled, secure environment. "The Information Anywhere collaboration software is installed and controlled within the enterprise, and includes important features such as message routing and compatibility, with IM and e-mail auditing and archiving systems, ensuring the security of the enterprise systems and complying to various industry regulations," he says.
He adds that with this release, Information Anywhere suite offers the most comprehensive support for extending enterprise e-mail systems and IM platforms across the broadest range of mobile devices and smart phones, including the latest Windows Mobile 6.0, such as the HTC S710 and the T-Mobile Dash, and Symbian-based devices, such as Nokia Eseries and Sony Ericsson M600i and P990i series.
The newly-available Information Anywhere Mobile IM includes:
* Support for leading enterprise instant messaging systems, including IBM Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Live Communications Server, Jabber XCP, Jabber Wildfire and Reuters Messaging, as well as support for public instant messaging networks via XMPP, including Google Talk and Jabber.
* Comprehensive cross-platform support for Windows Mobile, RIM BlackBerry, Palm, Nokia Eseries and Symbian OS-based mobile devices.

Laptop security
Sofianos highlights the fact that laptops continue to be the single most important mobile device in many corporations, as well as the most significant security vulnerability because of the enormous amount of confidential information they contain.
"The Information Anywhere laptop security solution provides centrally-managed control for this vulnerability, which is virtually transparent to end-users," he adds.
The current update delivers many enhancements, including:
* Easy administrative decommission process: Securely decommission retired laptops in one easy step. It eliminates the need for third-party tools or services to decommission retired devices.
* Shareable removable media support: Ability to encrypt data on USB and IEEE 1394 (Firewire) devices with option for sharing data on the device with other users.
* Multi-user/admin support: Each protected machine supports administrator and multiple user accounts, with unique login credentials.
* Two-factor authentication: In addition to strong password authentication, ability to support smart card and token-based authentication products.
* Expanded status reporting: Easily and remotely track the status of a security installation and encryption for the enterprise.
