Symantec and VERITAS today announced the completion of their merger, finalised on Saturday, 2 July 2005, following approvals by both companies' stockholders.
By merging the industry leaders in storage and security software, Symantec will provide enterprises with a more effective way to secure and manage the most valuable asset - information. Symantec can now deliver information security and availability solutions across all platforms and to customers of all sizes.
In addition, the company has announced the 10 directors who will serve on the company's board of directors, following the completed merger with VERITAS. The new board, comprised predominantly of independent directors, will be eligible for re-election at the company's 2005 annual stockholders meeting.
John W Thompson will remain as chairman of the board of directors, as well as chief executive officer. Gary Bloom, formerly VERITAS chief executive officer, will serve as vice-chairman and co-president.
Locally, Patrick Evans has been named as regional director, with responsibility for sub-Saharan Africa and will now be responsible for identifying and anticipating market trends for this region.
In addition, Evans will be responsible for planning and implementing relevant business strategies, based on local needs and overseeing in-country sales efforts. Evans has 30 years experience - five of which he has spent at Symantec - and has an extensive understanding of operating within the sub-Saharan region.
Lindsey Armstrong, vice-president of sales for Symantec Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), says: "Patrick is an outstanding contributor and will be instrumental in maintaining and building upon Symantec's position and reputation in this emerging market."
"Symantec's new combined team is committed to 'business as usual' with its customers, partners and channel members. I will be working closely with the teams across the vertical segments and divisions to develop business across the region. This is a case of the sum of all parts being greater than the whole, as both teams bring a strong legacy of accounts and customers to the new Symantec, as well as a breadth of experience across the information integrity space," says Evans.
"Symantec South Africa's customers and partners can be assured that business activities will continue as normal and should continue to contact the team members that they are accustomed to dealing with," he adds.
Both locally and abroad, Symantec's partners continue to voice strong support for the Symantec-VERITAS merger, highlighting the benefit of having a single source for industry-leading solutions to help secure and manage critical information assets. The combined company's product and service offerings, coupled with the expertise of its global partner community, are uniquely positioned to deliver information security and availability solutions across all major IT platforms to all customers - including consumers, small businesses, large enterprises and service providers.
Symantec will provide its customers with a broad range of storage and security solutions. Thus, channel leaders look forward to continuing a long history of collaboration with Symantec to build, market and support solutions that will assist customers in cost-effectively and efficiently managing heterogeneous IT infrastructures. Further, with the completion of the merger, channel partners will have new opportunities to deliver greater value to customers, through the combined company's industry-leading portfolio of solutions for information security and availability.
