Symantec - known for its Norton anti-virus software - is reported to be close to concluding a deal to buy fellow software company Veritas Software for $13 billion. Veritas is the top seller of software for data backup, storage and archiving.
Worldwide media reports quote unnamed "sources close to the deal" as saying the talks between the companies are advanced.
There has been no official confirmation from Symantec or Veritas, but should a deal occur, it would eclipse Oracle's $10.3 billion takeover of PeopleSoft as the largest-ever software acquisition.
Earlier this month, Veritas Software SA announced that country manager Dave Reddy had resigned from his post. Reddy has not yet said where he is moving to, but confirmed today that he would leave Veritas at the end of this month.
