Symantec, the global leader in information security, today announced record revenue growth for the fiscal second quarter. With total revenue for the quarter at $618 million, Symantec has seen an overall increase of 44% over the last year.
The September quarter marked another period of record performance for Symantec. All regions turned in double-digit revenue growth with EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and JPAC (Japan and Asia Pacific) each posting 52% growth and the Americas growing at a very strong 38%. For the quarter, Symantec's enterprise business represented 49% of total revenue and grew 29% year on year. Symantec's consumer business represented 51% of total revenue and grew 63%.
"We continue to gain momentum in our consumer and enterprise business segments as customers look for solutions to help them create a balance between the security and availability of their information assets," said John W Thompson, Symantec chairman and CEO. "In addition, our international performance remains solid across all regions."
Patrick Evans, regional manager, Symantec Africa, also commented: "It is encouraging to see such strong growth of Symantec in Africa, not only is it clear that the overall business is continuing to grow, but for Africa, this increase in results is certainly an indication of the level of acceptance, understanding and education that is being dispersed around online security."
"Africa is currently on a drive to develop its resources and capital generation to support its local industry requirements and participate on a global scale. Therefore, Symantec's key focus area will be to continue educating, supporting and assisting our channel partners and customers in understanding the global benchmarks for Internet security and information integrity in line with government's statutory requirements.
"This revolves around understanding the bigger picture and not merely product punting. For example, a company can deliver a secure environment, but without understanding how to ensure this information is made available to the right people, there is no added benefit to the solution. Therefore, Symantec is focused on helping companies manage their risk - to ensure data is not compromised - this focus has certainly been rewarded in our continued business growth globally," concludes Evans.
Symantec is the global leader in information security providing a broad range of software, appliances and services designed to help individuals, small and mid-sized businesses, and large enterprises secure and manage their IT infrastructure. Symantec's Norton brand of products is the worldwide leader in consumer security and problem-solving solutions. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Symantec has operations in more than 35 countries.
