Zer01 takes on telco giants
Zer01 Mobile is set to offer a mobile service that provides unlimited voice, text, and data services using mobile VOIP, states InformationWeek.
The company claims it will undercut carriers such as AT&T, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless by offering unlimited plans for about $70 a month without a long-term contract.
Zer01 says that it has developed proprietary algorithms and defragmentation engines that enabled it to have all of its voice traffic go over data networks it rents from carriers, even if it were over an EDGE or GPRS connection.
Etisalat rolls out VOIP system
Middle East telco, Etisalat, has chosen Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a unified communications and VOIP system in the telco's offices throughout the Middle East and Africa region, reports Fierce VOIP.
The company said the deployment would enable 10 000 IP endpoints in eight main sites, as well as 3 500 users of Alcatel-Lucent's My Instant Communicator Unified Communications solution.
Alcatel-Lucent also recently signed a 10-year agreement with HP to develop IP telephony solutions, which could provide future unified communications products to the Etisalat as well.
