Business intelligence solutions provider Synergy Computing has announced that it has successfully completed a merger with Sunstone Business Solutions Systems, a Johannesburg business also providing business intelligence solutions on the Cognos platform.
According to Synergy Computing managing director Andrew Connold, the company identified Sunstone as a potential merger partner some time ago. "Sunstone was, to a large degree, a competitor for Synergy as we have many overlapping strengths. Having worked alongside the company in the market, we established that together, the merged company would be in a position to service our combined customer base more effectively," he explains.
Adding Sunstone to its business effectively increases Synergy's client base while giving the company access to a greater pool of resources in terms of the management team as well as technical capability. "The Sunstone team brings considerable experience and ability in data warehousing, having successfully completed a number of large projects, while it has been particularly successful in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries, extending Synergy's vertical market ability," continues Connold.
Because Synergy recognises the necessity of skills transfer to achieve maximum value from business intelligence solutions, it says it has also bolstered its recognised training ability through the merger. "We believe we have probably the best combination of technical, training and business skills to offer in the South African market as a result of the combined force of two highly proficient teams. We can handle bigger projects faster, while scheduling and delivery is expected to improve with the bigger administrative capability."
Cognos SA managing director David McWilliam says the vendor is pleased with the progress made by Synergy Computing. "Prior to the merger, both organisations were Cognos approved partners, and we anticipate that clients can expect a stronger company as they bring to bear their combined strength and experience. We believe that with a national footprint, the new organisation will continue to drive Cognos technologies further into the South African market."
