SYSDBA has been in the South African market for 18 years. During this time there has been a tremendous change in the storage market

Johannesburg, 19 Jun 2014

Numerous traditional storage giants have been able to take advantage of their size and reach into the market with few key technology differentiators.

The rise of the modern storage array has got the market sizzling, customers now have a huge choice between traditional and next generation technologies.

SYSDBA believes that each customer should be focused on how each of these vendors address their business needs. The value isn't in the sales pitch. (I am a proud sales manager) The value is in the understanding that the vendor will stand by the customer throughout the lifecycle of the technology. Delivery of superior support at an agreeable price-point is a key metric.

The worldwide decline in external disk storage systems is reflected at a micro level in South Africa.

This decline been at the high end of the storage spectrum. The IT giants are refocusing their research and development to bring out faster innovative technologies that were typically reserved for bigger wallets. Customers are spending more carefully due to economic pressures experienced globally.

On premise storage will still be with us for many years to come though business will look at all the options whether this is outsourced, managed as a service or cloud.

Cloud storage offerings can be a viable option for small companies: big businesses are struggling to afford broadband to accommodate their needs. The more cost effective broadband becomes while not comprising reliability the more cloud storage will grow.

Make sure your storage partner shines a light into your business and uses the opportunity to get to know your business before falling prey to well-rehearsed and polished slides.
