Syspro clinches R6.5m deal with Delta Corporation

Johannesburg, 24 Feb 2003

Global ERP software leader SYSPRO has won a landmark deal with Delta Corporation, the largest company listed on the Zimbabwean Stock Exchange and a dominant manufacturer of beer and carbonated soft drinks (CSDs).

Delta has purchased a 700-user licence for SYSPRO 6.0, the latest release of SYSPRO's business solution software. Alastair Wright, IT Director of Delta Corporation, says SYSPRO 6.0 is a critical component of the company's drive towards world-class business practice.

"Having grown into an industrial and commercial conglomerate, 2002 saw Delta unbundle its operations to become a focused beverage company once more, supporting several beer and CSD product groups and brands," Wright explains. "This led to a complete re-engineering of business processes. An enterprise-wide suite of resource planning, execution and analysis tools was recognised as an essential success factor for the new organisation."

One of Delta's minority shareholders is SABMiller, whose Africa and Asia operations have standardised on SYSPRO software for several years. "One of our objectives is to align ourselves with SABMiller's policies and procedures wherever possible, and its global strategy allows a choice between SYSPRO and SAP. After a thorough evaluation, we chose SYSPRO because it met our requirements at a substantially lower cost of ownership," Wright says.

SYSPRO 6.0 combines leading-edge technology with comprehensive product enhancements. It has built-in core functionality for an integrated, end-to-end supply chain solution encompassing ERP, CRM, APS, E-Commerce and Warehouse Management. New in SYSPRO 6.0 are Business Analytics, Document Flow Management, integrated CRM and Finite Scheduling.

Delta brews lager beer in two plants in Bulawayo and Harare and sorghum beer in 16 breweries nationwide. Soft drinks are bottled in two additional plants. Its products are distributed through 18 combined beverage distribution centres. In total, about 7 million hectolitres of beverages are bottled and sold.

A phased implementation of the full suite of SYSPRO software is currently under way. Finance and Procurement were tackled first, followed by Sales and Distribution. All financial ledgers are scheduled to be live before the end of March 2003. By this time, Delta has also targeted to have four sales and distribution centres live and operational, the full fleet/asset management system installed and the compensation and benefits function of the human resources stream live. The roll-out of the sales and distribution modules and the implementation of the manufacturing modules will take a further 12 months.

SYSPRO 6.0 will be interfaced with Pragma's Onkey Maintainer asset management system, FLO vehicle scheduling and tracking system, and the ProClarity interrogation tool

Commenting on the advantages offered by SYSPRO 6.0, Wright says the system is expected to yield benefits substantially in excess of Delta's financial investment. "This will be delivered through improved business processes and controls, world-class information and strategic positioning for growth," he says.

"SYSPRO and the e.net solutions will definitely be part of our future - it's really only a question of how fast we and our business partners can travel. Whatever happens, Delta and SYSPRO will be in partnership for many years to come."
