Syspro launches EMU-compliant version of IMPACT Encore

Leading local software developer Syspro has released the EMU-compliant (European Monetary Union) version of its award-winning IMPACT Encore enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The product will be on show at this year`s Computer Faire exhibition.

Meryl Malcomess, marketing director of Syspro, says: "Although the emphasis is on EMU and the introduction of the euro, the developments in IMPACT Encore Version 4.0 also provide substantial benefits for IMPACT users throughout the world -- whether they deal with European Community (EC) companies or not."

The latest version of the software is in line with the standards defined in the Business & Accounting Software Developers Association (BASDA) White Paper. Features include conformance to EC regulations on rounding and triangulation. Furthermore, users of IMPACT Encore Version 4.0 now have access to extended transaction values, long file names and a new user interface. The product allows for up to 255 characters to be entered for file names (such as import file names, tag file names or data path names). Users will also be able to translate standard reports into any language.

Malcomess says the extended field sizes for transaction values, prices and costs are of paramount importance. "Both in South Africa and overseas, an increasing number of companies are dealing in currencies which require large field sizes - such as the Italian lira, the Portuguese escudo and the Kenyan shilling. In today`s global market, an ERP system`s ability to handle these currencies is critical."

Version 4.0 provides a database structure which allows transaction values to have 12 places before the decimal point, and two places after the decimal point. Prices and costs may have up to 10 digits before the decimal point, and five digits thereafter.

New printing options include the ability to define margin offsets as well as the number of lines per page per printer, a facility which is particularly useful for laser printers. The user may also define how numeric fields are to be printed on reports.

Commenting on the new user interface, Malcomess says IMPACT Encore 4.0 now uses the Microsoft Sans Serif 8-point font style. "Apart from being more elegant, the new font allows Windows and Dialog Boxes in Version 4.0. to support extended field sizes with the minimum of effort," she says.

In line with Syspro`s policy of allowing users to customise the IMPACT product, this latest development allows report headings to be changed and translated into any language. With this feature, users can now translate any component of the IMPACT Encore product, be it the user interface or standard reports.

Version 4 has been released simultaneously on all supported IMPACT Encore platforms. These include: Windows 95, Windows 98; Windows NT Workstation 4.0; Windows NT Server 4.0; SCOOpenServer 5; SCO UnixWare 7; IBMRS/6000 AIX 4.1/4.2; HP 9000 HP/UX 10.20; Sun Solaris 2.6; NovellNetWare 3.12/4.1; and Intranetware 4.11.
