Systems Integration (SI), one of South Africa's leading storage solutions providers, has established a post-graduate Storage Academy at the company's head office in Sandton. The Academy will focus on providing storage-related skills, including courses aimed at previously disadvantaged individuals and Small Medium Micro Enterprise (SMME) sectors.
Jack Ward, MD of Systems Integration, comments, "The Storage Academy is an exciting development for us as it is a unique concept in the South African industry. Our intention is to provide individuals who would normally not have access to data storage skills, with the right knowledge of the sector. We see this as being a vital skill set, as data storage is rapidly increasing its share of the IT industry."
SI has been an equal opportunity company since its inception 12 years ago. The Storage Academy is staffed by qualified SI employees who present product and generic storage-related courses to members of the local IT community.
"SI's investment in the facilities and courseware places the company in a strong position to add value to the local IT community. The Storage Academy enables SI to provide further value to its customers, and the IT industry as a whole. We intend to allocate 30% of academy capacity to previously disadvantaged individuals and SMME sectors," continues Jack.
The Academy's classroom facility is fully equipped with 12 NT, Windows 2000 and UNIX machines, which allow hands-on tuition. The current courses on offer include, Legato Administrator, Veritas BackupExec, Veritas DMS and Fibre Channel Fundamentals. Other storage related courses are currently under development.
