Tablet race begins in Korea
The battle of the tablet PCs starts in Korea this month with Samsung releasing Galaxy Tab through SK Telecom, says ET News.
Another distributor, KT, will begin receiving orders for the iPad WiFi around the same time. Next month will see KT and LG U+ releasing the iPad 3G and Galaxy Tab with EVDO Revision A respectively.
According to sources, the first round will be waged between SK Telecom and KT in the middle of October in the high-end market.
iPad usage on the rise
A new survey has found that 20% of the time iPad owners spend with the tablet computer is between the covers, reports Sify News.
The poll of 500 iPad users conducted by NPD consumer research group also found that the device is becoming addictive, according to the New York Post.
People who bought an iPad within two months of its release earlier this year say they are using it more than 18 hours a week and for more than one-third of them, that amount is increasing.
German MPs to use tablet PCs
The German parliament has ruled that members can use tablet PCs in the parliamentary building, the Bundestag, writes Panorama.
In June, one politician used his iPad to address colleagues, which was seen as audacious, according to the report. A committee took months to decide on the issue, according to German media.
The main factor behind the decision was because the flat form of the computers does not block vision like laptops do. iPads can also operate silently, “preserving the dignity of the chamber”, says the report.
