Take control with BPM

In a business world characterised by information overload, corporations often find themselves facing a frenetic rate of activity with very little benefit. When this is combined with little or no management of business processes, the typical result is inefficiency and an overwhelming lack of organisation.

June Julyan, Mobius Product Manager of Bateleur Software, recommends putting the control of business processes with the business rather than with IT.

"This way, line managers have the flexibility to change business processes and adapt them as required," she says. "Also, decision-makers will have up-to-date business information, facilitating improved decision-making."

Julyan was commenting on the spiralling levels of business processes and information in organisations today, including e-mail and records, Web interfaces, digital assets, workflow and imaging, intranets and reports.

"As a result, business models are changing dramatically and enterprises are now concentrating on core competencies, which need to be optimised at the business process level. To achieve this, the organisation needs to adopt new business rules and financial models, finding new ways to find and keep customers." All of this calls for a business process management (BPM) solution that allows the organisation to integrate its business processes across different vertical markets and various operating environments. Effective business integration enables disparate business resources to work together to support the company`s business strategy.

"BPM solutions can integrate the resources supporting your business processes, automate the transactions between them and monitor those processes while executing them, creating highly beneficial levels of transparency. Effective BPM solutions return control of business processes back to business people from IT people," she says.

Bateleur Software is the local agent for Mobius Management Systems, the leading provider of total content management solutions which support e-business and streamline internal operations. WorkflowDirect, a component of the ViewDirect TCM product suite for total content management, is a Java-based business process platform for designing and building workflow applications that connect the enterprise with customers and trading partners while improving internal productivity.

"WorkflowDirect goes beyond traditional workflow tools by integrating content, process, people and systems, and by making intelligent choices in routing tasks," Julyan says. "Any business task can be defined, routed, tracked, updated and linked to all the documents needed to support decision-making. WorkflowDirect provides a next-generation workflow solution that meets ever-growing requirements for better business processes."
