Today, applications proliferate in our businesses and our daily lives. From cellphones, to online applications, to self-service kiosks, to the many other applications that we interact with on a regular basis, applications run a business.
Businesses are under pressure to provide more application functionality and rich content to their customers and consumers in their Web-based applications, and today`s demanding business environment means that organisations need to take applications to market faster while reducing cost and increasing functionality and performance.
"This doesn`t just apply to Web-based applications; the same can be said for enterprise software and applications, the applications that really do run businesses, the ERPs, CRMs, logistics, supply chain applications," says Haydn Pinnell, MD of GTS, an EOH company. "There we see increased pressure to improve cost efficiencies through consolidation, automate more processes, handle more volume, provide on-demand services through the cloud, and it`s no longer just a case of hardware, bandwidth and infrastructure capacity and capability."
The focus now, more than ever before, he says, is on the application itself. Is it efficient? Is it functional? Can it handle transaction volumes? Can it scale? "Business is demanding answers to these questions, and robust applications that run right, first time, every time," he adds. "Critical ICT failures are potentially business threatening and endangering time to market simply cannot be tolerated."
For these reasons, the provision of independent application or software services is fast becoming an international best practice. Today, software testing and assurance practices in the ICT sector must match and perhaps exceed the expectations of business.
Pinnell points out that to be successful, organisations must have management and control of all functional and non-functional test related activities, allowing them to be in a position to measure and define business and testing process, methodology and solutions within multiple business domains. This is an extremely specialised area of expertise, leaving most companies floundering around trying to find a service provider to help them achieve their goals, or relying on international companies that cannot offer a localised solution.
"GTS has developed a range of specific technology focused on cost mitigation, risk mitigation and improved quality. An independent testing organisation like GTS is a specialist, employing specialist skills, ensuring the highest level of agility and lowest cost through access to multiple resources, technology and automation practices," says Pinnell. "These services can be deployed either as part of a project or programme, or as a wider value add proposition across the organisation as a whole with a focus on specific areas of technology, automation and scalability across multiple projects."
The core of GTS`s offering is its Centre of Excellence. GTS provides completely flexible delivery methods from the Centre of Excellence to outsource, co-source and project-based engagements. In this way, customers can choose the best solution for their needs, knowing that GTS offers management and control of all testing-related activities to ensure the proper testing techniques are applied on an engagement-by-engagement basis.
"GTS utilises tools and technology from multiple software vendors as our approach is driven by methodology, people and process - rather than one particular product, even though we have exceptional specialised knowledge across multiple domains such as SAP, Oracle, etc," explains Pinnell. "GTS can therefore be seen as a collection of service streams and delivery methods, delivering independent software testing services."
Based on international best practice, as well as the collective knowledge and lessons learned from multiple testing engagements, GTS provides companies with a strategic and operational edge. By ensuring that testing is prioritised and client specific, GTS enables its customers with the knowledge that its applications and/or software will achieve the desired results. "We focus on reducing time to market, improving quality, optimising testing cost associated with application deployment and change in life cycles, increasing organisational agility, and ultimately reducing organisational and business risk. We leverage these principles to ensure that our customers can deliver first time, every time," Pinnell concludes.
