Tarsus adds Legion lock, cable solutions to accessories portfolio

Johannesburg, 04 Apr 2006

Tarsus Technologies has announced the addition of the Legion range of lock and cable solutions to its portfolio of accessories, offering customers a valuable way of protecting themselves against data loss and downtime that results from the theft of a notebook or PC.

Sophia Evans, product manager at Tarsus Technologies, says: "In all parts of the IT industry, there`s a veritable buzz about security, safeguarding data from hackers and ensuring that computers are kept virus-free.

"But while organisations spend a fortune on putting measures like firewalls and anti-virus solutions in place, they often forget about the data loss, downtime and confidentiality problems that occur due to the theft of a notebook or desktop.

"Add to this the fact that the latest crime statistics relating to theft are showing a strong trend towards higher-value items such as notebook and desktop computers. It is becoming more apparent that physical security measures like the Legion range of lock and cable solutions should be a requirement for every desk-based and mobile employee," she adds.

"Think of it like a gear-lock for your computer," she quips. "In the same way that you wouldn`t leave a vehicle parked in the street without some form of security measure, either in the form of a tracking device, immobiliser or gear-lock, you shouldn`t risk leaving valuable assets such as notebook computers in the open, without adequate security. Legion`s solution is the perfect answer to this," she says.

Consisting of a 1.5m high-tensile cable, lock, swivel plate and CPU attachment, as well as a mouse and keyboard cable holder, the Legion desktop offer is easy and quick to install. A similar solution is available for the notebook space.

"Mobile users can also take advantage of Legion`s `port adapter` which fits into the serial or VGA port on any notebook computer and provides an even stronger deterrent," Evans explains.

The good news for corporates, as well as small and medium organisations, is the low price of these solutions. "For a minimal investment, a customer can get peace of mind, knowing that their PC or notebook is safe from theft," she says.

Sales Manager of Legion Lock and Cable, Sonia van der Merwe, says beyond the competitive pricing, there are several other compelling reasons to use Legion solutions.

"The main benefit of using our products is that they are manufactured locally and Legion Lock and Cable is a member of The Proudly South African Campaign," Van der Merwe says. "It not only means that local skills and resources are involved in the manufacturing of the solution, but should a customer have a unique set of requirements, such as extra cable length, additional components or unique designs to secure any type of equipment, this can be addressed with ease and a speedy turnaround time."

Another benefit of Legion solutions is that the reduction in insurance premiums. "All of our products have been evaluated and are recommended by the South African Insurance Association and have in many cases resulted in discounted premiums and reduced excesses for our customers.

"The use of Legion products is not limited to PCs and notebooks only," Van der Merwe explains. "Many users have installed the solutions on their standalone printers, faxes, copiers and many other pieces of office equipment."

Evans considers the addition of Legion`s range of solutions to the Tarsus portfolio a positive move. "We believe that the physical security of IT components is as critical as other forms of safety measures and that through Legion`s devices Tarsus will be offering another value-add to its customers. We hope that these products will be met with great interest and enthusiasm, and that they will eventually become a `standard accessory` for every notebook or desktop purchased through us," she concludes.
