Tarsus inks southern Africa distribution for Wyse thin-clients

Johannesburg, 11 Oct 2005

Tarsus Technologies has announced the signing of a distribution agreement with Wyse Technology that will see Tarsus become the new main supplier of Wyse thin-client devices in southern Africa.

"We are delighted by this appointment since it exposes our reseller base to an industry-leading product line that will not only yield healthy margins for all the partners involved, but at the same time, expand our solutions set, bolstering our range of offerings for the enterprise market," says Ron Keschner, GM of the IBM and General Product Divisions at Tarsus.

"We are also committed to supporting the resellers currently selling Wyse in the local market and not yet registered as Tarsus dealers. As such, we are in the process of registering these resellers swiftly and seamlessly to ensure they are able to place orders with Tarsus," Keschner continues.

"These efforts are aimed at making it `business as usual` for current Wyse resellers - the only difference is that from 1 October they can contact Tarsus directly to place their orders. These `new` resellers will also gain access to the extensive knowledge we have in the enterprise market, as well as the processes, procedures and value-adds that the majority of the country`s resellers have already based successful businesses on."

Testimony to the success Wyse believes it will achieve through this appointment, Wolfgang Staehle, President and GM of EMEA Operations at Wyse Technology, says the vendor was initially attracted to Tarsus due to the pedigree the distributor`s brand carries in the market.

"The market seems unanimous in the opinion that the professionalism Tarsus attaches to each of the products it distributes and the strong relationships it has with its resellers is second to none. We also noted that there is an 80% crossover between Wyse`s existing VAR base in SA and the VARs Tarsus engages with on a daily basis."

Newly-appointed Wyse country manager, Arnot van Heerden, says Wyse is also particularly bullish about this decision since it believes the breadth of resellers that Tarsus currently engages with will lead to incremental opportunities in the market. "It will give us access to a reseller market we are currently not reaching and supports the strong growth in demand for thin-client solutions," he enthuses.

Another factor Wyse considered prior to appointing Tarsus was the company`s core competencies and experience in the local enterprise market.

"With the knowledge base the company has managed to build up over the past 20 years of operation, not to mention the associated technologies Tarsus currently represents, we believe Tarsus can assist resellers to assemble the types of solution Wyse`s potential customers in southern Africa are looking for," Staehle continues.

"In addition, value-add like Tarsus`s PartneRewards loyalty programme and its Channel Business College set it apart from its peers in the market. With our resellers gaining access to these programmes, we believe it`s not only the right decision for Wyse, but the right decision for our resellers," Staehle concludes.
