Tarsus keeps its HP customers safe with bundled CA AntiVirus, Anti-Spyware

Johannesburg, 24 Jan 2006

Tarsus Technologies has proudly announced the extension of its OEM agreement with Computer Associates, which now sees version 7.1 of the vendor`s eTrust AntiVirus solution and a 30-day trial of Anti-Spyware being bundled with every HP notebook, desktop and server distributed to the channel by Tarsus.

"We`ve all come into contact with malicious code on the Internet," says Jamie Scott, director at Tarsus, "and we all know the havoc that malware can wreak on an unsuspecting user.

"In the past year this problem has truly spiralled out of control, with operating systems vendors like Microsoft recommending that no PC is connected to the Internet, or any other network for that matter, without suitable protection from malware," Scott continues.

"In the interests of allowing our resellers a useful value-add and affording their customers an extra measure of security, we signed an agreement with Computer Associates earlier this year to bundle a full version of eTrust AntiVirus and a trial version of Anti-Spyware with all of our locally manufactured HP computers," he explains.

"That initiative was greeted with such success that we`ve now replicated it across all of the HP computers that Tarsus distributes locally," he says.

Scott says this bundling agreement represents an additional value of roughly R249 per computer for end-users. "And what`s more," he says, "that`s money a large portion of our channel`s customers would have had to spend anyway.

"The reason for this is simple," Scott says. "A large percentage of the HP computers that Tarsus distributes are destined for the home and small business environments. These two markets are rife with infection and are areas that generally cannot afford to spend too much extra on their IT environment.

"By offering this security software as a value-add, we believe that we are not only going a long way towards solving the infection problem in the SMB market, but also providing assistance to customers that can benefit from it most," Scott adds.

"We trust that the extension of this offer will be as successful, if not more successful than before," Scott concludes.
