Tarsus Technologies announces HP DeskJet 990CXi professional series printer

Johannesburg, 19 Apr 2001

Tarsus Technologies, a member of JSE-listed MB Technologies, has announced the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 990Cxi professional series printer, an easy-to-use printer with a unique industrial design for businesses.

"Hewlett-Packard`s high-performing DeskJet 990Cxi takes pole position, with its combination of features, speed and quality results," says Traci Maynard, peripherals product manager at Tarsus Technologies.

"The Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 990Cxi professional series printer`s quality is of a very high standard, with rich text that is well defined. The 990Cxi copes admirably in terms of colour tests, even on plain paper. In the graphically demanding test, the product`s handling of tones and shading is rated excellent, with no noticeable colour bleeds," she adds.

According to Maynard, the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 990Cxi professional series printer, shares the same print engine as the Photosmart 1218. "It is virtually impossible to tell the difference between the two printers` results, as both produce phenomenal results on glossy paper. What`s more, A4 print emerges in less than five minutes."

In addition, the Hewlett-Packard 990Cxi professional series presents a handy duplex unit, an impressive 5000-page monthly duty cycle, near-silent performance when printing, and large ink cartridges to minimise the amount of times needed to change consumables.

"The Hewlett-Packard 990Cxi professional series has infrared connectivity which means convenient printing from personal digital assistants, notebook computers, and other mobile devices - just point and print," continues Maynard.

Maynard concludes: "Hewlett-Packard`s DeskJet 990Cxi professional series printer is a premier photo-quality colour business printer with the latest smart printing features."

Tarsus Technologies

Tarsus Technologies is the distribution arm of MB Technologies Limited - a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and one of South Africa`s leading IT groups.

The founding company of the group, Tarsus Technologies, was established in 1985 by Leo Baxter, and was involved in the development and sale of software before diversifying into hardware distribution.

In 1989 Baxter sold a majority share to M+PD Electronics, which was subsequently sold to Siltek. In the early 1990s, Tarsus expanded its hardware sales, and was appointed distributor for OKI, Samsung and Compaq. In 1992, Baxter bought back Tarsus, selling a majority share to Persetel, and in 1994 he took advantage of an opportunity for a management buyout and repurchased the company with Mike McGrath acquiring an equal share.

The company was now growing strongly, and MB Technologies was formed as a holding company to cater for the group expanding and diversifying its operations into new areas.

Today, Tarsus Technologies is one of South Africa`s leading hardware distributors and widely recognised by the channel for its service ethos, product knowledge, excellent support and channel focus.

With an executive board comprising Mike McGrath (the founder of M+PD and past MD of Siltek), Leo Baxter, Guy Whitcroft, Pierre Spies, and Jamie Scott, Tarsus` management team is arguably the most experienced IT distribution team of any company in the country.
