The Epson DFX-8500 replaces the DFX-8000 and is an advanced dot matrix printer designed for business applications. It combines high performance and reliability with a wide range of features, including high-speed printing and automatic paper handling.
This model is a wide carriage 9-pin dot matrix printer with a super speed of 1120 characters per second (cps) at ten characters per inch (cpi). The printer is very reliable with a mean time before failure (MTBF) of 10,000 (POH), a print head life of 200 million characters and a ribbon life of 15 million characters.
Paper handling accommodates a variety of paper types including labels and multi-part forms. Comprising a standard front and rear push tractor, the user can switch easily between different types of continuous paper quickly and easily. The DFX-8500 automatically adjusts the thickness of loaded paper; therefore there is no requirement for the user to make any manual adjustments to the paper thickness settings. The Perforation cutter and Paper cutter provided with the printer make it easier to handle continuous paper by cutting off printed documents.
The paper memory utility allows the user to register (in the printer`s memory) specific printing parameters of up to eight different paper types. This allows the computer and printer to determine how to handle individual print jobs. The user is able to select the paper type without having to reprogram the paper setting each time. The user can register the paper form information when using multi-part overlap or forms with labels on them.
In addition to the three bitmap fonts, the DFX-8500 is now capable of printing eight barcode fonts. The printer is also fully networkable in multi-platform environments.
The DFX-8500 comes with a bi-directional, 8-bit, parallel and serial interface. To monitor a DFX-8500 printer through a network, an optional type B Ethernet card must be installed in the printer, using the status monitor utility that comes with the interface card.
The control panel consists of indicator lights and buttons that notify the user when the paper is out and blink if the ribbon is jammed in the printer. The control panel allows the user to switch paper paths, register paper information via the paper memory utility, etc.
The DFX-8500 printer is covered by a one-year RTB warranty.
