Tarsus Technologies, the distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies, has announced that it has been named sole South African distributor of Compaq`s leading StorageWorks enterprise storage solution.
Andre Wollheim, product manager for Compaq at Tarsus says that Compaq has elected to award the rights to Tarsus due to the skills that the company boasts as well as the volumes of the product that Tarsus is moving.
"In terms of skills, we are light years ahead of any other distributor when it comes to StorageWorks," asserts Wollheim. He reveals that he was among the first fully qualified Accredited Systems Engineer Professionals (ASE) for Compaq StorageWorks in South Africa and is ably backed by a team nine storage salespeople and three support staff, one of whom is also an ASE. The remaining two support technicians are qualified Accredited Compaq Technicians.
"Added to this extensive expertise, Tarsus has an enviable reputation for moving the most StorageWorks product of any of the major distributors," adds Wollheim, revealing that Tarsus has moved in excess of R5-million of StorageWorks products this year alone.
"Both our sales figures as well as our highly trained staff complement demonstrate the commitment that Tarsus has to the StorageWorks solution," says Wollheim.
According to Wollheim, StorageWorks is a unique storage solution as it is multi-host and multi-platform supported; and will operate on most leading operating systems.
"This announcement makes Tarsus a one stop shop for Compaq for all our reseller clients," says Wollheim. He adds that, because of the Compaq channel structure, approved Compaq VARs and exclusive dealers can avail themselves of the StorageWorks solution through Tarsus at the same or even a better price than from Compaq itself. "This is because Compaq awards a discount to distributors, which is then passed on to our resellers," he explains.
"Now that we have been awarded exclusive distribution rights, we are stocking up massively in anticipation of demand for the StorageWorks solution," concludes Wollheim.
