Tarsus Technologies will soon introduce IBM`s High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter (Low Profile Enabled) to the local market. The company believes the new IBM adapter offers wireless LAN users the necessary wireless freedom and simplicity.
"This adapter is the first PCI adapter in the IBM networking portfolio to offer all NetVista users wireless LAN (WLAN) capability in the corporate enterprise, kiosk and public access arenas. It is especially good news for NetVista x40 users in WLAN environments where space and ease-of-use are major factors," says Drikus van der Walt, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies.
The High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter offers data transfer rates of up to 11Mbps and gives users the freedom to move around - without cables - while maintaining connection to a network. The 128-bit data encryption capabilities of the adapter facilitate secure network transmissions.
"Because no cabling infrastructure is necessary, this adapter allows rapid deployment of systems to an existing wired LAN or the creation of an entire new LAN in situations where wiring is expensive or difficult to install," comments Van der Walt. "This results in a potentially significant reduction in the costs associated with IT maintenance and frequent changes of location."
