TCM Academy hosts Cisco's International NetRider's Competition

TCM Academy played host for the South African site of Cisco's International NetRider's Competition which saw 75 competitors from 25 countries including Nigeria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Kenya and Russia compete for a five-day study/incentive trip which will take place in January 2009.

NetRider's participants had to be 18 years or older, and had to have completed studies at a Cisco Networking Academy within the last six months. There were three components to the competition, based on Cisco Certified Networking Administrator (CCNA) Networking Academy material:

* Multiple choice making up 40% of the mark.
* Packet tracer simulation tasks making up 40% of the mark.
* Technical support simulation call making up 20% of the mark.

The participants were monitored at TCM Academy in Bedfordview during the event by Cisco Area Academy Manager, Altaaf Hamid. The three South African participants were Gloria Kubeka and Elias Tlou from CIDA City Campus, and TCM Academy student Monaheng Makhetha.

TCM Academy which is fully Isett SETA and Cisco accredited provides previously disadvantaged individuals with basic information technology and Cisco networking skills. The Academy skills these individuals up to CCNA exam-ready level. TCM Academy is also an accredited Pearson VUE testing centre which gives the learners who have successfully completed the training easy access to write the exam which will earn them an internationally recognised certification.

TCM Academy students have the advantage of live, on-site practical training at various TCM customers from a diverse group of industries. This practical experience and high standard of tuition at the academy contributed to the TCM Academy student, Monaheng Makhetha excelling from very early on in the competition and achieving a place in the international top 10.
