TCM Launches LANSA 2005 - Breakthrough in EAD/EAI Technology

Johannesburg, 28 Sep 2006

TCM has released LANSA 2005, a significant milestone in LANSA`s 17 year history that delivers on plans to support next-generation application architectures. TCM marketing executive Ashley Weeden said LANSA 2005 provides a powerful suite of application development and integration products that enable mid-sized organisations to overcome the complexity inherent in delivering future applications. "What makes this version different from other offerings is that developers only require one, easily-to-learn skills set to master."

"The enhanced programming syntax for LANSA`s high-level language, called RDML, offers an enhanced natural and concise notation that allows developers to write even less code than before," she said.

"Using a feature of LANSA 2005 called Web Application Modules (WAMs), developers will experience a shorter learning curve and lower development costs to produce browser-based commercial applications."

LANSA-generated applications can now be deployed to and fully exploit the use of multiple platforms (iSeries, Windows, Unix and Linux) and multiple databases.

Web Services

LANSA 2005 Web Application Modules (WAMs) architecture separates business logic from presentation. It is this architecture that enables WAMs to interoperate with .NET and Java applications.

In addition, LANSA 2005 enables developers to use Java services seamlessly in their applications, including vastly simplified access to and implementation of Web services from LANSA and 3GL programs alike.

For organisations starting on the Services-Oriented Architecture (SOA) path, LANSA 2005 provides the necessary tools and architecture. The WAM structure lends itself well to SOA implementations.

Using a single development methodology, developers can build applications that can be deployed with a single click for iSeries, Windows, web services or any browser-capable devices such as Palm, Pocket PC and WAP-enabled phones.

Because the business logic is separated from presentation, applications built today using WAMS will be capable of delivering the same user interface using tomorrow`s presentation technologies without impact on the business logic.

Rapid Application Development and Productivity LANSA 2005`s Integrated Development Environment (IDE) provides developers with more productive capability to design, develop, debug and deploy applications to multiple platforms.

Through a capability called Framework, LANSA 2005 provides the necessary business infrastructure and security for developers to rapidly prototype, develop and implement Windows and browser applications from a single application model.

The framework prototype translates into the end-user application using the XML-based snap-in architecture. This architecture leads to a tremendous reduction in application maintenance and the short learning curve substantially reduces start-up costs.

Any-to-Any Integration

LANSA 2005 also enables developers to quickly build A2A and B2B applications. Built-in support for multiple transport protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, SMS, SOAP) and multiple data formats (EDI, CSV, XLS, etc.) helps automate the creation of Zip and PDF files and the conversion of iSeries spool files to PDF documents.

An integration studio enables developers to administer, configure, debug and deploy applications for integration with disparate systems inside and outside an organisation.
