The TechnoFaire Cape 2006 consumer expo will be held at the MTN Sciencentre located at Canal Walk, Century City in Cape Town this year and is taking place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 October.
The expo is a showcase for a wide range of technology-based entertainment for the home, including: home theatre; personal computing; games and edutainment; gadgets, gizmos and hobbies; and mobile technology. TechnoFaire also includes a series of educational and entertaining events that will be staged in tandem with the main exhibition in adjacent auditoria and workshops at the venue.
"One of the goals of the MTN Sciencentre is to showcase the latest technology, and we therefore believe that we are a perfect venue for the TechnoFaire this year. Visitors will be able to see the technology on show in the TechnoFaire as well as use the 400+ interactive displays in the MTN Sciencentre at the same time."
Professor Mike Bruton, Msc PhD
Head: MTN Sciencentres
Visitors to TechnoFaire are typically consumers in the home entertainment and education sectors and Canal Walk shopping centre was selected as the venue to host TechnoFaire as it attracts a multitude of regular shoppers, which together with the marketing drive for the event, is expected to result in numerous additional visitors.
The show is timed to capture the Christmas trade for new ideas and sought-after products and coincides with the annual Canal Walk fashion show. Canal Walk shopping centre enjoys huge attendances of visitors during the normal course of events with attendance figures of 150 000 shoppers alone visiting the centre during the same three-day period in 2005 with an average of 113 00 per day or 33 900 accessing the centre at the entrance next to the MTN Sciencentre. It is also anticipated that Canal Walk`s annual fashion show will substantial increase the visitor numbers to the centre as has occurred in previous years.
The main exhibition features at TechonFaire include home theatre; computer hardware and software; notebooks; computer and mobile games; printers; handhelds; PDAs; smartphones; LCD monitors; plasma TVs; touch screens; PVRs; GPS and hi-tech watches; DVDs; MP3/4 players; digital cameras and video cameras; satellite radio; multimedia products and services; wireless devices; ADSL; VOIP; 3G and HSDPA; flash storage; Bluetooth; robotics, toys and music products; sports and hobbies; security solutions and radio-control.

Press releases will be disseminated from inception right up to the week of the event and there will be a direct marketing campaign to the existing Sciencentre members (+/- 6 000).
The Cape`s most popular radio station, KFM, together with Cape Talk and various community-based stations, including Radio CCFM and Radio Tygerberg, have been selected for promoting the show for the visitor drive and a special show feature will appear in print in the Weekend Argus newspaper. Additional advertising opportunities at preferential rates are available for exhibitors wanting to take advantage of the existing marketing promotions.
Complimentary tickets will be available for VIP and selected visitors. There will also be extensive marketing and promotions at the Canal Walk centre during the period leading up to the show.
