Tektronix leads colour laser market in SA

By Square One
Johannesburg, 28 Oct 1998
Tektronix have expanded their brand leadership in the South African colour laser printer market, boasting exceptional results for the first half of this year. This is according to the BMI -TechKnowledge Group (Pty) Ltd., publishers of South African Bi-Annual Printer Update of September 1998.

The report follows on from previous bi-annual reports on the printer market published by BMI-TechKnowledge and covers the period January to June 1998.

Reporting on Brand Shares - 1997 versus first half of 1998 - the survey finds :

"In the overall colour laser category, Tektronix displayed exceptional results during the first half of this year, extending their domination over the colour laser market to 58% unit share, up from 53% in 1997. Tektronix attribute their growth in South Africa to their continued relationship with sole distributor, Square One. Tektronix colour laser printers are targeted at the corporate and graphics markets. Tektronix have invested more than fifteen years in research and development to bring down the barriers to colour printing for users in all professions and make it easier to print in colour every day. In October this year, Tektronix will be launching a new range of colour lasers and A3 and A4, solid ink lasers."

Square One MD, Trevor James commented, "Obviously Square One are very pleased with these results and were delighted to be able to report these findings to our Tektronix partners at the recent USA Conference. With the launch of the new Tektronix product offerings due to take place in October, we believe our brand share for 1999 will not only hold firm but will exceed all expectations."

The report further finds that individual and corporate users are realising both the power and accessibility of colour printing. Although the colour laser is a relatively new product and the initial purchase is higher than that of a colour inkjet printer, users are finding that running costs are up to four times lower and print quality is superior with no need for special media.
