Telecom Namibia tackles fraud

Global provider of integrated revenue management, ECTel has been awarded a $1.2 million project by Telecom Namibia.

The project stipulates that ECTel is to provide Telecom Namibia with FraudView management, which is a and revenue assurance solution, says David Ronen, senior VP of marketing and at ECTel.

He says the product is intended to help the communication operator manage and create business growth. "African communication operators are expanding rapidly and need to do so in a profitable and financial way."

Many operators in Africa do not have sufficient fraud management and revenue assurance controls in place yet, resulting in revenue leakage that is often much higher than their European peers, he adds.

Ronen says the product also contains ECTel's online Fraud Data Exchange technology, which will allow telecom operators to download anti-fraud updates online, keeping clients up to date with trends.

ECTel is beginning to see more business across Africa, says Ronen. The company has been concentrating specifically on Namibia, but is increasing its presence in other regions of Africa through various business ventures, he says. "We believe business in Africa can be a long-term trend for us and for our industry."
