Telecoms companies accused of
An Indian tribe called the Gujjars have, through the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, filed a suit against eight cellular mobile companies in India providing services in Jammu and Kashmir, according to The Daily Etalaat Srinagar.
The Gujjars accuses them of consumer fraud, false advertising and deceptive trade practices by "misrepresenting Gojri”, the third largest spoken language of the state, in their package for customer care in regional languages, as well as providing poor quality services in tribal areas.
“Firstly, the ignorance of Gojri language by cellular mobile service providers in customer care compelled us for initiating a legal proceedings against them”, says Javaid Rahi, national secretary of the tribal foundation.
Nintendo settles lawsuit
Nintendo has settled a lawsuit over its motion control system that could have resulted in an import ban on the popular Wii console in the US, reports The Escapist.
Nintendo was sued by Hillcrest Labs in August 2008 over four patent violations covering motion control technology and television-based "graphical interface software".
While the company sought a cash settlement through the lawsuit, it also filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission asking that Nintendo be barred from importing the Wii and Wii Remote into the US.
Industry challenges e-cycling programmes
The hi-tech industry is starting to fight back against what it calls onerous e-waste recycling bills, states EDN.
In July, the Consumer Electronics Association and the Information Industry Technology Council filed a federal lawsuit against New York City over its e-waste recycling law and regulations.
The lawsuit charges that the city's e-waste programme is unconstitutional.
