Telepresence transforms communication

Well before the current world financial crisis struck, organisations have sought inventive ways to engage in face-to-face meetings without the need to travel, writes TMCnet.

Companies have turned to services such as Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro, Cisco WebEx, Citrix GoToMeeting, and Microsoft Live Meeting as a means for workers in multiple locations to share presentations and otherwise collaborate.

These tools greatly reduce costly, productivity-sapping travel, with the added benefit of lowering a company's carbon footprint, yet scratchy audio quality, out-of-sync slides, and tiny, Webcam-quality video often diminish these solutions' usefulness. The door has now opened for telepresence solutions: a conferencing environment that seeks to mimic the in-person experience as much as possible.

Anchor Bay chips for Denon goods

Denon Electronics has chosen to incorporate the chips of Anchor Bay, a supplier of video-processing semiconductors (ASICs) and systems video processing chips, across its newly introduced product line, reports Ecoustics.com.

The Anchor Bay chips include the latest proprietary video reference series technologies including precision video deinterlacing and precision video scaling.

Seven audio video receivers and one Blu-ray player, scheduled for release in June and July, will use Anchor Bay chips to provide video format conversion and enhancement functions.

Collaboration boosts transceiver research

Renesas Technology, a global semiconductor system solutions provider for mobile, automotive and PC/AV markets, has entered into a strategic collaboration with IMEC, the European Independent Research Centre in the field of nano-electronics, reports Nanowerk.

The collaboration is to perform research on 45nm Frequency (RF) transceivers targeting Gbps cognitive .

To this end, Renesas has joined IMEC's software-defined radio front-end programme, which includes researching reconfigurable RF solutions, high-speed/low-power analogue-to- converters and new approaches to digitise future RF architectures.
