Telesphere lands $7m added funding
Telesphere, a US-based voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) service provider, has secured $7 million in venture funding, reports Fierce VOIP
Rally Capital, Hawkeye Investments, and Greenspun provided the company with $15 million in May and now are adding an additional sum to that amount. Despite the weak economy, Telesphere has been able to pull together $32 million in funding over the last two years.
Telesphere chief executive officer, Clark Peterson, says the capital would be used to reinvest in the company expanding capabilities and customer service.
Samsung smartphones get mobile VOIP
Agito is bringing enterprise-grade VOIP over WiFi to Samsung smartphones, while facing competition from deep-pocketed companies like T-Mobile, states InformationWeek.
Agito Networks is extending its VOIP over WLAN services to Samsung's smartphones to make cost savings when making international calls because the calls are routed through the enterprise's voice infrastructure.
The company previously supported some BlackBerry, Symbian, and Windows Mobile smartphones, and it said the latest deal could enable it to make a stronger push for US companies.
Yota eyes GSM handover
Russian WiMax operator Yota is set to roll out a WiMax terminal that can make VOIP calls and hand them over to a GSM network when the caller wanders out of the WiMax coverage area, says PC World.
Yota president and CEO Dennis Sverdlov showed a prototype of the new GSM phone with VOIP-over-WiMax at the ITU Telecom World exhibition in Geneva.
Last November, the company introduced a terminal from High Tech Computer that can make calls over GSM networks and connect to WiMax data networks.
