Telkom confirms ADSL failure

Telkom confirms reports that it has experienced technical problems with its ADSL lines.

"The problem was only in the Kempton Park area, which affected ADSL customers on the East Rand," explains Lulu Letlape, Telkom`s group executive for corporate communications.

"The problem occurred as a result of a faulty card, which our technicians have replaced, restoring early yesterday morning."

She says rigorous searches through Telkom`s surveillance systems could not reveal any fault in Johannesburg. "As far as we know, the Johannesburg area was not affected."

However, ITWeb received reports of ADSL outages as far-reaching as the Bryanston area in the northern suburbs.

"Technical investigations in the Bryanston area yesterday afternoon saw tests on Telkom`s sync alarms being conducted, but no interruptions of any sort were detected. Furthermore, tests were also performed from the Bryanston exchange and the equipment tested fine," adds Letlape.
