Following the upgrade of its network, fixed-line operator Telkom will now offer its customers ADSL speeds of up to 10Mbps.
The speed boost is an enhancement of its existing ADSL offering. Therefore, it remains subject to localised line conditions and the type of equipment available at the nearest exchange, notes Telkom.
The upgrade is focused on 4Mbps users who currently sync at full profile speed. This means 10Mbps will initially have a limited footprint, says the company, but this footprint will increase as Telkom expands its Metro Ethernet and ADSL2+ presence.
Recently, acting Telkom CEO Jeffery Hedberg listed the company's broadband offerings as a key element of his turnaround strategy.
He noted at the time that Telkom's broadband offerings would be one of the company's key differentiators going forward, not only with ADSL, but also in future mobile broadband offerings.

While Telkom subscribers will no doubt welcome the increased speed of their ADSL service, 150 business centres have already being enjoying a similar service from Neotel for some time now.
In April, Neotel announced that it's 4 000km rollout of fibre touches the doorsteps of around 300 businesses centres, and has already connected half of them to its fibre network.
Neotel's fibre proposition promises speeds of 10Mbps or higher, lower contention on the lines and higher symmetry (similar upload and download speeds over the connection).
