Telkom customers' demands will take priority as it carries out its transformation in an effort to meet the demands of the ever-changing consumer landscape, it says.
Speaking yesterday at the GovTech conference, in Durban, Godfrey Ntoele, group executive of national sales and marketing operations at Telkom, said a customer-centric approach is crucial.
"There is a rebirth of sorts going on and a strategy leads the structure. Telkom is refocusing to maintain its leadership position in SA, while growing a strong footprint on the continent."
Ntoele said Telkom was going through a “renaissance” as a result of an increasing move towards converged solutions. He added that, while SA would still be its operations base, the operator was moving into Africa and executing a global strategy.
"The group will be equipped for our international expansion and focus on convergence in the forms of fixed-mobile convergence and ICT," he noted.
Necessary changes
Ntoele said Telkom welcomed increased competition and would focus on improving its cost efficiency and offering more customer-centric solutions. Regulatory requirements would not be neglected, he added.
"This is a continuous process. On the one hand, we must look at the way we behave in the context of the broader industry, but the change is almost always driven by a changing society and environment."
Customer demand will always precede legislation and regulations needed to keep up with changing consumer patterns, he explained.
Ntoele said convergence was the driving force behind progress and the operator would move aggressively towards becoming a one-stop solutions provider. The company will also turn to venture capital partners and look at developing innovative customer solutions, he added. Data centre services would also grow over the next few years as the operator looks at outsourcing growth opportunities.
The operator's future lies in logical network layers focused on service diversification, Ntoele concluded.
